Wrangling Exercise, 21 November 2013
To mark its 30th year of operation, Pavilion invited artist Cara Tolmie to stage an iteration of her ongoing Wrangling Exercise event series.
Three participants - the Chair, Interviewer and Interviewee - staged a dialogue around Pavilion's roots as the UK's first women's photography centre. The participants rotated roles throughout the event, with each person taking a turn to direct the conversation, to ask questions and to answer them. The form of the event reflected Pavilion's early aim to constitute a new democratic structure operated by and for women.
Participants were early members of the collective: Dinah Clark, Sue Ball and Sally Dawson. The location of the event, the former park pavilion on Woodhouse Moor (now Akmal's Tandoori Bistro), housed Pavilion's gallery and darkroom from 1983-96.
