Leeds Art Walk, 5 December 2018
Join us for our 5 December edition of Leeds Art Walk, a free monthly tour of exhibitions in Leeds, programmed by Pavilion.
The schedule includes selected exhibitions introduced by an artist or curator, alongside a screening at our new space, 42 New Briggate, Leeds.
5.30pm: Francis Butterfield at Leeds Art Gallery, The Headrow, Leeds, LS1 3AA.
Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the painter’s death, the display includes the very first abstract work to enter the Leeds collection in 1937, Butterfield's Figure Derivation. Watercolours and drawings feature alongside recently discovered and unseen material by the Bradford-born artist.
6.10pm: Simeon Barclay: Bus2move at The Tetley, The Tetley, Hunslet Road, Leeds, LS10 1JQ.
Simeon Barclay presents a new body of work informed by research into dance. Creating immersive environments with lighting and sound that bring theatrical influences into the gallery setting, Bus2move manifests as a series of sculptural installations combining costume, film and video, photography, lighting and sound.
6.40pm: Screening: Whisper, The Waves, The Wind by Suzanne Lacy at Pavilion, 42 Briggate, Leeds, LS2 8JD.
Whilst Butterfield’s work was the first abstract art to enter the Leeds Museums and Galleries collection, the first video they collected was Suzanne Lacy's Whisper, the Waves, the Wind (1984), acquired in 1994.
Lacy worked with a group of Southern California women over the age of 65 to produce a series of policy and media actions that culminated in an oceanfront performance for an audience of 1000. The film documents the performance on a beach in La Jolla, where the women discuss their lives, their relationships, their hopes and their fears.
Free, just turn up. Refreshments will be available at 42 New Briggate.
Meet at 5.30pm at Leeds Art Gallery or join us at any of the venues along the way.
